While SMS is the most effective channel to reach a consumer, it's imperative that businesses stay compliant with carrier guidelines in the region to continue to enjoy uninterrupted services. Certain business categories and messaging related to these categorized are prohibited or significantly restricted.

The messaging use cases described below are strictly prohibited on SMS and MMS platforms in the United States and Canada.

Being non-compliant could result in your traffic being restricted and lose access to SMS services, given carriers have a zero tolerance policy.

What happens if I send messages containing the categories?

As these prohibited categories, ezConnect has filters to block messages that related to these categories to remain compliant with Carriers. If messages aren't blocked, it violates carrier policies and all SMS traffic will be stopped by carriers . Repeat instances will lead to permanent suspension of SMS services for the business.

Why are Cannabis products restricted while my state has legalized it?

SMS or MMS messages related to cannabis are not allowed in the United States, as federal laws prohibit its sale, even though some states have legalized it. Similarly, messages related to CBD products are not permissible in the United States, as certain states prohibit its sale. This is reflective of US carrier rules in this area, and there are unfortunately no exceptions to this policy.

As a business what should I do to effectively use SMS and stay compliant?

While ezConnect does filter messages, we recommend you to refrain from sharing any content related to these categories via text communication.
